How Walking Programs Benefit Seniors
Walking is an activity that is best for seniors who no longer have the physical strength of being able to do harder and straining activities. Walking, as a form of exercise, does not have to be strenuous to be beneficial to your health. The Australian Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour Guidelines recommend walking to people aged over 65.
In Victoria, you can enjoy and engage with others in your community as a senior by joining walking programs.
Walking Program: Is it beneficial to seniors?
Walking programs in Victoria are established to help seniors stay healthy and motivated by being grouped with other seniors while being monitored.
In general, walking programs can help improve your well-being in many ways:
Seniors are encouraged to take at least 30 minutes of walking to manage and reduce different health issues. If 30 minutes seems too much for you, that is alright. It is better to walk a little than not do a walking exercise. Even 15 minutes, or whatever your limit is, would be enough to give you these health benefits as you gradually grow more used to walking.
